THE LUMINOUS MYSTERIES
1- The Baptism of Christ
Jesus is revealed
to Israel at his baptism.
The voice of the Father declares him
his beloved Son,
and the Holy Spirit
comes down upon him
to prepare him
for his mission.
Mary: I knew his going to the Baptist would signal the beginning of a new phase in the life of Jesus, but I could not know how swiftly and violently things would progress. He was anointed by the Spirit, and John's prophecies began to be fulfilled.

A prayer: Blessed Mother, may we have your help to be purified by the grace of our baptism, so as to fulfil our role in God's plan?

  1. John the baptiser appeared in the wilderness, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. (Mark 1: 4)
  2. He proclaimed, "The One who is more powerful than I is coming after me". (Mark 1:7)
  3. Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. (Matt 3:13)
  4. John would have prevented him, saying "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" (Matt 3:14)
  5. But Jesus answered him, "Let it be so now; for it is proper for us in this way to fulfil all righteousness." Then he consented. (Matt 3:15)
  6. And a voice came from heaven, "You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased." (Mark 1:11)
  7. Here is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! (John 1: 29)
  8. I came baptizing with water for this reason, that he might be revealed to Israel. ( John 1: 31)
  9. I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him. (John 1: 32)
  10. He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. (John 1: 33)
